Here is a bunch of 10 min and 5 minute life drawings.
Here are even more value studies. Have focused on quite a few different topics. But mostly in controlling the values. But also in trying different materials and how those materials are affected by light. Also using basic geometry to build up the shading.
The reason for doing all of these studies is that I am trying to bring up my basic artistic skills to a higher level. As I am lacking the basic artistic education, I have not been taught the basic artistic skills. So I have been reading up on those basic skills, and set up a schedule for myself where I will learn those skills. And at the moment I am focusing on values and how to controll values in a good way. And therefore trying to understand how light works and how lighting hits the surface. Different forms of lights, from spotlights to directional lights. Using basic geometry to start rendering. Etc etc. Trying to explore as many methods and ways possible in regards to value. This will continue for at least a couple of weeks more.
After dealing with values I will focus on Edges and value gradation. Which is very closely related to values.
Have done 2 more studies. In the first one I tried to just do a value study of a human in a pose.
The next one I did an environment. Where I built up the environment with basic geometry, this to see how the lighting, athmopheric perspective, material, texture, etc affected the whole image. I learned alot from it.
Trying to get the basics right, so I have started a schedule where i am trying to go through the basics. First focusing on the rendering the basic primitives. To understand the basic lighting a bit more.
Then went on to do some primitives in a simulated environment. Which was actually quite nice, you learn alot about about environment lighting when you try to do that. =)
Now I have moved on to trying to do more skulls and organic shapes like busts.
Also inserted an image of some gesture drawings that turned out nice.
Some more exercises.
I did a value study of a skull. The one to the left is the one I made based on the reference. The one to the right I made without using reference afterwards.
And then there is a plein air study.
This mornings exercises and some previous ones.
The one on the top is from this morning. I did some basic geometry shading. And also tried to do the same but from memory. So the ones on top are from using a reference, and the bottom one is from memory. I notice that I am alot more careful when going from memories, so my span of values is alot less than it is when i use references.
The bottom pictures are just ones I have been doing a couple of months ago.
Here are some plein air studies I have made for the last couple of months.
Here is another facial study. This one took a bit more than 30 minutes. I struggled alot with it. Really struggled with the likeness, which didnt happen until the very end when i tweaked the proportions. And I still dont think it is quite there yet.
So not a very good study. Tried to focus on getting the likeness right, and trying to organize my values. I had a fairly organized palette, and it worked quite well.
Now I see eyes are too small and a bit to close together. fuuu..
Did another sculpture study. Trying to work more on my basic artistic skills.
After I finished the study I tried to recreate the whole study without any use of my reference, I think it went fairly well. The values are so bright because I tried to recall the values as well. And therefore I recalled the values a bit too bright.
All in all it took about 30 minutes for both.
Here are 2 rather quick studies. A portrait study, and a classical statue study.
I think the portrait took about 15 minutes, while the statue took about 25 mins.
Some cd cover illustration I have done.
For the bands Crucifyre, and Monoscream, Check them out.

Some old practice stuff.
